Anyone in the construction, renovation, or industrial business understands the importance of a suitable adhesive – especially one that can replace metal frame welding. But not all adhesives and sealants are the same. Choosing the right 3M adhesive for your project can make all the difference.
An epoxy adhesive comprises a resin or polymer and a hardener to adhere or join one or more surfaces. Epoxy is often more suitable than other substances as it creates a powerful and permanent bond that can withstand stress and weather conditions.
Epoxy adhesives are a must-have in the industrial, construction, automotive, aerospace, and electronics industries. But, as we said, not all adhesives are the same. Taking the time to consider your project and end goals can make a significant difference in helping you determine the best adhesive to use.
3M, a Minnesota-based technology company, is a leader in manufacturing industrial, safety, and consumer products, including adhesives. Some of their tried-and-true epoxy adhesive products include:
The 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive DP100 is a game-changer for those needing a fast cure and machinability. This product sets at room temperature, forms a rigid bond, and has low viscosity, making it easy to dispense and level.
Whether you need to repair a hole, dent, or crack in metal, bond plastic to metal, replace metal frame welding, or otherwise, DP100 is a high-strength, flexible adhesive with just a five-minute open time.
The 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive DP100 provides high-strength bonding in challenging environments. Check out this YouTube video for a comparison of 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive DP100 and DP125.
The 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive DP125 is low odor and creates a solid structural and flexible bond on ceramics, plastics, metal, and wood.
This product is ideal for items that need to be joined, glued, and structurally bonded in the general industrial, transportation, signage, and appliance industries. DP125 is flexible when cured, making it the perfect epoxy for bonding different surfaces – and when resistance to flexing, vibration, and other stresses is necessary.

The 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive DP190 is shock and impact resistant and is excellent for bonding masonry, rubber, metal, and most plastics.
This product has a working time of 80 minutes, allowing ample wiggle room from when you mix the resin and hardener, and the epoxy begins to gel. DP190 remains workable enough to wet out a surface during the working time, and it doesn’t reach a complete cure for 14 days at room temperature.
The 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive DP420NS is best suited for applications that require impact and vibration resistance.
This product is toughened for impact and fatigue resistance and cures at room temperature, making it convenient for tough-end applications. Specifically, DP420NS benefits the transportation, electronics, and sporting goods industries. Use it to attach Kevlar or to bond electrical connectors.
Selecting the right epoxy adhesive depends on your use for the end product. Be sure to consider the following factors:
