3M designed their 3M™ Trizact™ PSA Film Disc 268XA for polishing and finishing applications. They did this by equipping it with a waterproof polyester backing and proprietary 3M microreplication technology,
The Difference Is in the Construction
3M chose a polyester film backing for 3M™ Trizact™ PSA Film Disc 268XA because it is water-resistant and you can run it wet or dry. People commonly use this disc for damp sanding on various substrates, including acrylic products, solid surface materials, and glass. Using a lubricant like water helps the disc run cool and wash away debris that could warp or discolor the substrate. Depending on the project or application, 3M™ Trizact™ PSA Film Disc 268XA typically is used during the middle of a sequence. This helps bring the workpiece one step closer to the matte, semi-gloss or high gloss finish desired. While you can run it damp, the disc requires little water for effective results.
PSA Attachment
The pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) on the back of 3M™ Trizact™ PSA Film Disc 268XA helps facilitate easy disc to tool attachment. You use PSA discs in conjunction with a PSA or 3M™ Stikit™ backup pad that attaches to a random orbital sander. Another name for these backup pads are disc pads, and 3M sells them separately.
Great Versatility
3M™ Trizact™ PSA Film Disc 268XA is available in a range of grades A5 to A35. The lower the A-grade is, the finer the grade. Operators should select a smaller grade, like A5, for a fine finish and a larger grade, like A35, for a coarser finish. Discs are color-coded by grade, to reduce the risk of mistakenly selecting the wrong grade in a sequence.
