3M has over 40 years of lab-tested and industry-proven results demonstrating the reliability of cold shrink technology. 3M Cold Shrink Connector Insulators 8420 and 8430 Series and the other products in the cold shrink family are engineered with specially formulated materials that deliver a durable environmental seal and insulation. The core and tube sizing allows for a broader application range while preserving the seal and insulation properties of the EPDM rubber tube. Six diameter sizes accommodate cables up to 1000 volts, ranging from 10 AWG to 1000 kcmil, for both copper and aluminum conductors. For applications with high UV exposure or where visual inspection isn’t feasible, it is recommended to overwrap the tubing with Scotch Super 33+ Vinyl Electrical Tape or Scotch Self-Fusing Silicone Rubber Electrical Tape 70.
